Why not? Making wine is arduous, time consuming and a not very well paid labour of love. Every little helps and it allows you to continue buying cheap plonk with an air of guilt free superiority.

14 Years ago my husband and I came to look at a French vineyard in winter (never the best time given a grapevine looks very much dead between December and March) having little to no knowledge of vine growing or indeed wine making.

2 children, 1 dog 1 cat numerous ridiculously named chickens & several disasters later we are making our own, frankly, pretty good wine.

14 years or so ago I left my husband unattended for a weekend and he found a vineyard to buy. We had, (some might argue that's still the case), little to no knowledge or experience of wine other than we like drinking it.
